Our October 2016 Meeting:
Meetings are held at the Erie Yacht Club in Erie PA and begin at 6:00 pm with a social hour and dinner, followed by our program/speaker. Enter from West 6th Street on Kahkwa Blvd, North to Virginia Ave, and turn right on Virginia Ave to the Yacht Club. Tell the attendant you are with the Torch Club.

Our Dinner Menu:
Dinner Menu: We will have a two Entrée Buffet, choice of, Salmon in Tarragon sauce, Chicken Piccata, Peas and Carrots, Rice Pilaf, Salad, and Fresh Baked Dinner Rolls with Butter, along with Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee, Tea, Milk or Iced Tea. Our dessert will be Brownie with Vinilla Ice Cream.

"Contemporary Challenges Facing American Higher Education"

Our presenter for this evening is Dr. Michael T. Victor, J.D., LL.D. Mercyhurst University President.

His topic will be “Contemporary Challenges Facing American Higher Education”

Assuming office on Aug. 1, 2015, Dr. Victor is the 12th president of Mercyhurst University. President Victor served as dean of Mercyhurst’s Walker School of Business from 2002 to 2006 before accepting the presidency of Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio.

He holds a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from Saint Vincent College and a juris doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law.

Besides his impact on higher education during the past 14 years, he is widely respected as a civic and business leader, attorney and entrepreneur.

He began his professional career as an attorney in the corporate law department of MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton in Erie. From 1988 to 2000, he was CEO of Pyramid Industries in Erie, and then embraced a challenging and rewarding career in higher education.

Victor had served as president of Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, for the past nine years. During that tenure, he never lost touch with his Erie roots and maintained his family home in Erie, where he is widely respected as a civic and business leader, attorney, entrepreneur and fundraiser who has risen through the ranks of administrative positions in higher education. Victor served as dean of the Walker School of Business at Mercyhurst from 2002 to 2006.
